My mom has this laptop and I just changed the vista on it for LUBUNTU. Its a good laptop it even has HDMI and its 13 years old! Might upgrade it for her the parts are cheap. A new SSD is $20 and another 2GB ram is $7 (for total of 4). That would turn this into a completely useable machine for years to come
i have the m1330 but i can't play 1080p videos on browser whatsoever, can you play it on yours?
Still using my m1330 to this day – Thank you copper mod!
I hope you upgraded the BIOS to A15 though, As I did that around 2011
Does it have to be that disk you to do it or can i use another or wat u recommend
I’m watching this in 2019. I love my M1330 but at this point I need to replace the disk drive since it doesn’t recognize discs, change the wifi card since it doesn’t pick up wifi and do a ram upgrade and ssd upgrade. Do you guys think it’s worth it at this point or just buy a new laptop?
I use several free programs to drastically reduce boot times using the original SATA HDD AND also extends the live of that drive: 1) Install IOBit Advanced SystemCare 7 (free) and run it weekly. 2) Install CCleaner and disable programs that start up unnecessarily (all listed). 3) Install Auslogics Disk Defrag and run the "defrag and optimize" once a week. At this point I get boot speeds of 30 to 35 seconds on my older Dell laptops AND I have SATA drives over 10 years old and still going strong. I hear SSD have a limited lifespan.
Hi, what would you recommend for my Dell xps m1530 for an ssd to speed it up, it seems super sluggish. Thank you.
Hello
I am looking for the data interface driver for my xps m1330
which was put under windows 7
because I can not activate my sim on it
Thank you for your help
Hi? What is a solid state drive? And do i need to install ssd too my xps m1530? Because im planning to upgrade it from its windows vista home prem to windows 10. And does it require to install ssd and bios?i dont know those things im not a tech guy. Can anyone help me?
Just got ahold of one of these laptops for free.It had Vista on it, but I immediately wiped it out and put Lubuntu Linux on it.
SSDs are better than HDDs.
processor core i3???
Sorry I mean download Windows 10 (it was first on Vista, then Windows 7 then Windows 10)
Thank you for very clear explanations which I have followed with success. However, I have cloned the HDD to the Samsung SDD using the maker's software to avoid having to upload Windows OS. The Dell XPS M1330 is still quite slow. Any suggestions on how to improve that would e great. Thank you for your help.
Have you tried to install mSATA SSD in mPCIe slot?
Are you going to upgrade to Windows 10?
i have dell xps 1645 can i upgrade it too?
im not much of tech person… but can follow instructions.
i feel the difference in laptop and workstation speed.. as my workstation is running on ssd…
tempted to upgrade my 4 year old laptop to ssd too… and bump up ram.
I have GOODRAM ssd 120GB and Dell do not see this solid drive. Any sugestions ?
How many hard drive bays does the m1330 have?
holy shit. I have just done everything you said. installed windows 7 and bought an SSD (crucial 250gb) and damn this laptop is so fast. thank you 🙂 Gonna get me some RAM now and finish this thing off.
i noticed your bios is the A14. I have the same laptop put it only has the A12 and searching on the dell support site for the M1530 only shows the A12 bios. Where did you get that bios update?
Where did you get he Windows 7 drivers?
I have a similar XPS m1330, and want to upgrade its OS to W7. My concern is not to be able to install the drivers for the wifi, webcam, …. after the upgrade
Ive got Dell XPS 14z 8GB model and just bought new Samsung SSD 840 evo. It always give me Disc Read Error Occurred.. Check the bios.. Its recognised it and boot priority Harddrive. Tried cloned and clean install still no luck.. Im not sure about compability issue or what or partitions. Any idea?
would you recommend updating the BIOS before starting?
I believe the newly window setup must boot quite faster. Have you backed up everything in the HDD to SSD and test it again? I want to see if it's still that fast boot.
windows 8 starts up even faster at first i hated windows 8 but its not that bad especialy windows 8.1
Is the heat dissipation better at the palm rest with the SSD installed?
Secondly, what at the recommended SSD for M1330?
you need update Motherobard Bio Flash, it easy way. make ur boot less
Weird.. My HDD was window 8 Fastboot 24 sec, they kill boot less 4 sec.
and my SDD test too fastboot window 8 kill Boot, 19 Sec..
more then u have HDD 1min near, SSD cool 20 window 7
… and an even slicker way to upgrade:
1 'Backup restore' then 'Create system image' to external hard drive
2 Create a system restore DVD
3 Swap in SDD disc drive
4 Reboot
Your old system will be replicated perfectly on the new SSD. I got similar speed improvements as James did in his vid. Nice!
WARNING: Watch out that the new much thinner Samsung SSD does not jam in at the wrong angle. The crucial moment is at 4m 45sec. It may feel like it is snugly docked, but mine was not – it was just jammed in. If your PC does not recognise the SSD then it is 99% probable that it is not plugged in even though all looks and feels fine. Take the SSD out, turn the PC over so it is the normal way up, and put the SSD in again – gravity will help it locate the socket inside the machine correctly. Then the machine will recognise the SSD. (By the way, I use Windows disc imaging to backup my old disc and then restore the image to the SSD in exactly the same state.
this installation can be made with the xps1530?
nice .. but whats the time to bootup when you backup all your file and program to your new ssd
Like the Yoda on the backround… hehe
I'd love to see you do this with the XPS 18.
Thanks.
