For VaronBros and the 5 other people who still care, we go over yet again one of the most notable laptops that’s ever graced this channel. Still kicking along just fine some 14 years after it was made. Too bad it’s essentially useless nowdays lol

Can we installed window 7 on this laptop model
I got one a while ago and dont k ow how to set it up
hi Ryan. i've a d610 and still runs. but now i'm going to upgrade it for smart working use. i saw your very useful videos and i'd know what kind of ssd internal memory and cpu i can use. thanks a lot for your attention. bye.
well im have a windows xp dell latitude d600 fake is restore now
I just got 2 of these yesterday for $5, with chargers (one has a broken screen). I already have a D500 (along with about 50 other laptops). Finishing up the factory restore on my new, free HP dv6 and then break out the D600's.
5:45 Although legally Dell is officially known as "Dell Inc." on its copyright and internal settings, it continues to use the old corporate name "Dell Computer Corporation" until Dell began to use Windows Vista.
I'm thinking if that laptop was just a couple of more years older, like from 2001 or maybe 2002, then you may be able to use it as a retro Windows 98 laptop, but I think 2005 would be a little bit too new for Windows 98 while at the same time it's too old for Windows 10. Most any PC that has a Core 2 Duo or better from 2007 or laster from what I've seen will work fine on Windows 10.
It's been a while since I was in 6th grade, in the school year of 1995 to 1996. For nostalgic purposes, I still have an old Toshiba Laptop 330cds laptop from 1998. I still have it on Windows 98 second edition and with Office 97.
I still have my D600 from 2005, with all the parts and drives in perfect order. The only thing ever done to it was a halo sticker put on it…When Halo 2 came out… I kept it in a case and forgot about it for almost 10 years, yanked it out and did a fresh install of linux on it and it runs like a champ.
I have this machine, but I wouldn't dream of running xp on it. It's just too anemic for those demands. I run WIN98SE on it. I mostly have this machine so I can have a decent gaming machine for away from home. This machine is pure dynamite for win98 gaming! A total dud for XP.
I just obtained two Inspiron 600m, the sister model to the Latitude, theyre in astoundingly great shape for the year and have the orginal software, Windows xp pro sp2. The only downside to these models is my display 1024 by 768 is too small for my enjoyment these days. It's funny since that's what I used for nearly a decade in the mid 90's, but surfing the web is painful. It's a good thing that's not my primary computer! Ouch!
I have the Precision M70 from this period in my collection also for nostalgic reasons as that was my main work machine for a number of years. It makes quite a decent retro gaming machine for this period as it has an inbuil 256mb video card. I well remember installing D600/D610 machines. They were not bad hardware at all.
how can I download on it
I have a question? I have about 15 of the Dell Latitude D600 laptops given to me by a company that went out of business and more coming in tomorrow but only a few has the windows password and login but the rest of them I can’t get passed the windows login information because I don’t have the passwords so how would I be able to bypass all that? Thanks in advance 🤞🏽
hey! whats that orange laptop/device on the right?
It's alright if not, but you should do an upgrade video of the d600 too. although there's not much to upgrade lol maybe show us you upgraded the ram and the cpu? idk dude up to you, if not this one I'd say the blue e6400 would make a good upgrade video too.
Still lots of modern browsers for XP. MyPal, roytam1's Palemoons, Arctic Fox, Chinese Chrome Clones…..
I remember I wanted 1 of these so bad in my teenage years
I found this laptop in the trash, but its broken and is not HDD in it lol. Maybe can i sell the other parts for cheap in my country (Argentina)
IMO the ThinkPad T60 is a better deal if you are looking at a retro XP laptop. It uses Core 2 Duo CPUs, IPS displays, and even SATA so installing an SSD is super easy. I think it was released in early 2006 making it just a bit newer than the D600. I know Varon and he has a D600. It's an ok machine but the IDE interface and 2GB RAM limit makes it a lot slower. The T60 can still browse Google Chrome and watch YouTube on Windows 10
J'ai le meme aceque je peux le formater avec windows 7 Reponder moi svp
I really want an old laptop so I can play old video games
I just got one off eBay £26.
with a little effort I've put win98 on it, Now I can play all my pre 2004 games that don't like modern systems.
Portable win98 system = awesome.
Memories of this and the Dell Optiplex GX620, good times!
Back to your old roots now? Is this the end of Apple0304? 😛
I've been watching your channel since 2013 and this really brings me back.
Ah yes, a nostalgia trip!
0304
I have the Dell Latitude D530 which has served me well for the last year. 🙂
It takes forever to boot to the desktop because for whatever reason the Intel GPU driver takes forever to load. Same shit happens with my crunch old dells with the 915GM or related graphics.
Some things hold sentimental value for me…other things, not so much. I had a Dell Latitude D610 for years – my second ever laptop, and I finally got rid of it a month or so ago. I don't really miss it, I have a better laptop if I need XP. I can see getting attached to things like that, because I used to be that way. I just had to declutter and I couldn't see the point of keeping it around when it sat on top of one of my bookshelves collecting dust. It's scrap metal for all I know now. Just my two cents on the situation and a personal experience…
I still remember Ryan’s dell phase where he’d fanboy over dell, I thought the 2013 rMBP was a joke tbh
What was the name of the school that you got the Dell Latitude D500 from?
I still remember the " IT HAS 2 MEGABYTES OF CACHE", meme.
When I subbed to you, eight years ago. It was simplier times indeed. My main and most powerful was a Pentium 4 with Windows XP, on a CRT monitor. Even if I already upgraded a year after to dual core. I was still attached to XP, that I dual-booted it on 7. It was basically like a training wheel for me.
Even if the CMOS battery is dead, it would still keep the time, as long as the battery still has a charge, and/or is connected to power. At least, that's what a Latitude E6400, E7440/E7450, Precision M4600/M4800 does.
Back when XP was still current I used to always use different themes, but now I prefer the default. Dunno why, maybe it's just nostalgia speaking.
Thank you!
I remember how excited you were when you got this!!
OG yes! Btw I do have some spare 1GB DDR kicking around I don’t need, I would send it to you if you’d like but I live in Canada so shipping would probably be expensive. (Edit: it’s only 1GB apparently)
I sold a inspiron 6000 and I really regret it. Oh well, i'll buy a parts rig off of ebay.
My D630, it still runs, but he's not very useful now, unfortunately. On dec. 30, 2018, he slowed down to the point of a complete crawl, and now he won't even run Linux. Tried both Ubuntu and SUSE. Same diff. My next project in light of this is to restore the old XPS15 that my mother gave me.
I think I caused quite the stir in GFY when I recycled a fair few machines, but until the point my personal D610 was recycled, it had exactly zero issues! Since I’d had it since about new, it was quite literally perfect, from zero wear on the keyboard, trackpad, palm rests, paints, etc, to minimal cycles and wear on batteries and hard disks. I used mine as a dedicated writing machine until the point I recycled it.
I have 2 d610s and a mint d510 and I've gotta say, those things are pretty cool toys to mess around with occasionally
still got my first pc. a hp pavlion desktop from 2005. by 2010, it was lagging and freezing. i dont miss it lol sitll got it though
I love the Dell Inspiron 600 notebook
I love my dell latitude d630 notebook
I remember when you got this!
Hey Ryan, Just wondering what do you recommend for a college laptop? I can save up about €400 which I think equates to $500 roughly. My thinkpad X250 unfortunately died there last month. My requirements are a 1080p Screen, Good battery and a quad core processor. If you could give me a second hand option and a buy new option then that would be great 😁
My high school had a few of these for people who couldn't write legibly. These ones were better than the ones they got after. I don't remember the model exactly but it was a thicker dell laptop with a blue lid and a desktop pentium 4 Prescott chip which ran hotter than hell in july. Most of those burned out as they got dirty inside but these d600s kept on going until they were just obsolete
