Lisa Gade reviews the Dell Latitude 5290 2-in-1, a Surface Pro clone with a newer and faster CPU, USB-C ports, optional Thunderbolt 3 and serviceable internals. The 5290 replaces the 5285 we reviewed last year, and it boasts Intel 8th gen Kaby Lake R U series Core i5 and i7 CPUs, up to 16GB RAM and your choice of a SATA3 or PCIe NVMe SSD. The convertible tablet has 1920 x 1280 (3:2 aspect ratio) display supporting touch and Wacom AES pens (branded as the Dell PN557W Active Stylus). The display is extremely bright and has better than average color gamut. There’s optional 4G LTE, and a removable Travel Keyboard (Dell’s version of the Surface Type Cover).

Thank you.😊

I have one with 8GB or RAM. Can I add 8 to have 16?
lol @ that shirt that is sooo funny
can you install any .exe file on this?
Love your channel !
Can it use the surface keyboard cover ?
The dell. Or surface pro 4 or 5?
How does the pen latency compare to surface pro 6? From the video it seems slower than what I have seen on surface pro 6
Serviceable internals! My Surface Pro 5 battery is dying after only 15 mos. You pretty much destroy the thing by trying to replace the battery. I mean, if a battery lasted 10 years dependably, I probably wouldn't care. But even at best, a battery lasts 3-4 years. I also got a 4GB model with only 128GB RAM. Neither is upgradable. If I had 8GB, I wouldn't care but the SSD being fixed is just insane. So while I love the SP, it's just crazy to buy any unserviceable tablet that costs what these things cost. 3 years and a brick? You don't have to be an IT pro or a business user to not want that. This also proves that you can easily put a screw open case on a tablet and not have it any thicker or heavier to any degree.
For some apparent reason, on Dell's own website, they have a link up for a 5290 2 in 1 that is $135?
Do you know what this might be?
Hi Lisa, thanks for the great review. I'm looking for a 13" laptop, a sturdy, allrounder performance oriented laptop or 2-in-1 for travelling and take to the office on a daily basis. I need speed and versatility. What would youbsuggest if i may bother you? I thought about tb e dell xpa 13 2 in 1 or the lenovo carbon. Thank you
Review nya asik
You're not as dumb as the shirt shows.
Thanks a lot for direct information
Nice t-shirt, and amazing review – definitely the best tablet review I've seen so far, can you replace the ram for future proofing?
I'm gonna need that t-shirt! (LOL)
Great Review 👍
how big can the microSD can be ?
Would you buy this latitude 5290 2-in-1 i7 16gb or the new Surface pro 6 i5?
Are you LinusTechTips mom?!?!
How can i switch the wifi on this
Nice presentation. Thumps up!
One question: does the pen has some special functions? Like copy paste or click combinations?
I would like to know more about that.
Buy the surface book 2; it's better. The only thing good about this laptop is design.
Is the PN557W the only Active Stylus that can be used with the 5290 2-in-1 or are there other options? If there are other options any recommendations on what is the best stylus to use with the 5290? Thanks for the excellent review!
Thank you for the up close views of the sides and back of the devices, it's really helpful how you slow the camera down to get it in focus thank you.
So i have had the I7-8650U model with 16 GB, for two months and it´s so incredibly efficient.
The cons compared to the Surface Pro and other similar models are;
– that it is slightly bigger,
– a bit heavier
– becomes a bit warmer on the back panel when running demanding high-performance task (bot only slightly at the top of the device).
The pros of this machine on the other hands are massive;
– The two Thunderbird is just really handy to have
– The chassis is much stronger and resilient, compared to the Surface Pro.
– The kickstand has many setting while being absolute steady.
– It really performs like a high-end office laptop at all disciplines expected, without any of the issues and underperformance you would normally get in a 2-1.
– The extended professional products from Dell, offers solutions to most professional issues you would run into with such a machine.
– The power of the Bluetooth and Wireless hardware is able to address the short-comings of other bad devices or networks.
I highly recommend this product and if you feel its out of your budget, visit Dell outlet, they are sometimes making 50% sales on Certified refurbished models from this year, bringing the top model down below 1000$ with taxes.
BaCoN!
I love your reviews and your shirt is fabulous 🙂
@MobileTechReview, what is the texture of the keyboard? I know you said it's a soft touch, but does that mean it's identical to the surface keyboard, that fake velvet feel? I'm looking to buy a system for someone who hates the texture of the surface keyboard…but likes the rest of everything about it. Turns out, Microsoft ONLY makes surface keyboards with that feel and not another type (as far as I've found).
If anyone has advice on another system that is similar to this, but without the velvet textured keyboard, please share! It just needs to have LTE sim capability. Thanks!
Cant i play even a windows store game?
Wow. This was a damn good review.
@MobileTechReview I decided to purchase this laptop, and lemme tell you, I love it. I got the highest top of the line option I could get with all the bells and whistles. My only complaint is the fingerprint reader is hit or miss but I'm still getting used to it. The card reader function was the main deciding factor for me. Because I am in the military, having a CAC reader in this type of form factor is a game changer for travelling purposes. I will never have to carry a CAC reader again when i travel. I don't do any editing, so I get around 9 hrs of battery life. The brightness was another deciding factor. I have zero issues using this outside. Yes it drains the battery more, but I dont plan on being outside in the sun for 9 hours. Light weight powerful, a 512 SSD and an SD Card with 4g LTE is simply awesome. If it wasnt for your review, I probably never would have known about this thing, especially with the CAC reader as an add-on. Thank you for the great video!
No one ever seems to say whether or not these types of tablets have keyboard covers that stay closed.
Does this have magnets that keep it on the screen or does the keyboard just flop about?
Does it has any fan to cool CPU inside?
Bacon!!!
can you mix and match keyboards and pens? like could i theoretically get this with the microsoft keyboard and the samsung pen?
How to make sure to have the Thunderbolt 3 option? In Dell website it also tells is optional but in customize doesn't let you choose this. Thanks for your videos
